Let's Have FUN Today!

Any of my fellow parents feeling like they need to work extra hard to make the summer holidays at least a BIT fun, despite living in the times of the Coronacoaster? 😩

I mean sure, most kiddos have already had a huge chunk of time "off" - but it really didn't count, did it?! They couldn't see their pals, nothing was open - even the park was out of bounds!

Honestly, I think our children deserve a lot of credit for getting through pandemic life in one piece - there have definitely been days when my 11 year old handled the whole thing better than I did!

Sure, there was many a wail of "I'm boooored!!" & a few tantrums [on both sides] about home schooling, but ultimately, he dealt with it all brilliantly.

Really, kids deserve the best summer ever for getting through all the weirdness that's been thrown at them, but with everything still topsy turvy, it's easier said than done.

How To Be Your Own Biggest Fan!

When did you last take time to congratulate yourself on a job well done? To give yourself a tiny cheer; or celebrate a victory, however small?

If you're struggling to remember, ask yourself this instead: when did you last give yourself a hard time for not doing a good enough job, for messing up or falling short?

It's an easy trap to fall into isn't it? It';s so much easier to be self critical - most of us are guilty at some point of being our own worst critic when really:

* * * We should be our own loudest cheerleader! * * *

Because let's be honest, who else is going to do it for you? You need to believe in yourself before you can expect anyone else to!

So, with that in mind, here are some ideas to help start tipping the balance in your favour, to get you on your way to being your own biggest fan!

Stay on YOUR path to SUCCESS!

How many times have you looked at someone else & thought "I wish I was doing as well as them"? ...don't worry, you're not alone!

It's a natural human reaction to measure ourselves up against our peers, BUT! It's also a totally pointless exercise.

Someone else's success is NOT your failure.
THEY are working on their dream, YOU should be working on yours.

Okay maybe your goal is to achieve something similar to what they already have, that's fine - but don't get caught up in comparing where you are to where they are.You have no idea how long they've been at it, how hard they've worked... and most importantly - just because they've already got whatever it is you want, doesn't mean YOU can't have it too! Use their success as motivation & inspiration to show up, do the work & crack on with making YOUR dreams come true.

Keep Going!

Make Time For Me Time (Or Y'know - YOU Time!)

'Me Time'. Sounds lovely doesn't it? Maybe a spa style bubble bath with candles and your favourite chillout mix playing... or binge watching a boxset with all the snacks... hiking up a hill and embracing the beauty of nature... indulging your creative urges... yoga... sweating it out in the gym? (I dunno, apparently that's how some people relax, I'm not here to judge.) ANYWAY! However you choose to fill it up, I think we can all agree that 'Me Time' is pretty important, right? So then why do so many of us make so little time for it?!

I know, I know. We're busy, we have commitments, there's work to do and people to see and only so many hours in the day. Long story short, we can't find time. Which is exactly where we're going wrong. We shouldn't be finding time, we should be making it.

Ohai 2018! (Is January 8th too late to say Happy New Year?)

...I'm never entirely sure of the cut off point where we stop saying Happy New Year - I mean something that's three hundred and sixty five days long is still *pretty* new after 8 days, right? Anyway...

Happy New Year! (Yeah, I'm going for it.) How's it treating you so far? I feel like so far so good, but at the same time, I'm not certain I've really started. Last week sort of escaped me to be honest - I did a couple of days work when Shorty went back to school on Thursday, but today's got all the proper back to work feels, y'know?

Hence the blog post - I wanted to get a few odds and ends down on virtual paper for the year ahead. I don't do resolutions as such (because who wants to start a new year with no more this or giving up that... they always feel like a self fulfilling prophecy of failure anyway), but I do like to set myself a few goals and/or good intentions to focus on in the year ahead.

This year's are being beautifully modelled by the little critter up there ^^^ - Do Your Best (it's ALWAYS enough) - Be Kind (always always) - Smile Lots (because life is just plain nicer when you're smiling.) I'm also planning to try to take better care of myself - I'm not going to make grand claims about exercising and clean eating, but drinking plenty of water eating more veggies than cake & getting to bed at a sensible time would be a good start. I've also got goals and hopes and dreams for my tiny empire, but those are probably better off in a post of their own.

How about you? Have you made any resolutions or set any goals? I'd love to hear about them :)

Cool, Calm & Christmas Ready or in a Frantic Festive Flap?

IT'S NEARLY CHRISTMAS!!!
Did that just fill you with glee or make you do a big anxious gulp?
Are you Cool, Calm & Christmas Ready or are you trapped in a Frantic Festive Flap?

Me? I'm a bit of both this year.
I have nowhere near achieved my eternal goal of being all done and checked off by December 1st so that I can just chill out & enjoy the pre-Christmas merriment (truth be told, after all my little famalam's been through in the last few months, I'm probably the furthest from that I've ever been!) - but I'm okay with it! Because here's the revelation that's been getting clearer & clearer to me in recent years: It's just another day.
